What BMW Has The B58 Engine?

BMW B58 engine

BMW is well known for producing top-line engines with superb power and reliability. The B58 is a live example of peak German engineering.

The B58 is a turbocharged straight-six engine launched in 2015. This engine is part of a modular engine family, with 2,998 cc (3.0L) displacement. This engine was named as the  Ward’s World’s 10 Best Engines four times, in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Apart from its predecessors and many non-M BMW engines, this engine is almost perfect in terms of power, reliability, and durability. So, let’s know everything about the B58 engines.

The BMW B58 Engine

The predecessor of the BMW N55, the B58 uses a closed-deck engine block, with 20% more boost pressure. It also has an increased compression ratio of 11.0:1, where it has a higher displacement of 2998cc rather than the N55’s 2,979cc with an extra 18 lb (8 kg) weight.

The B58 turbocharger uses a twin-scroll design, which is proven to be more efficient for power output, rather than the single turbochargers with less turbo lag.

In the intercooler, it uses a water-to-air design, which is more efficient for cooling. It also features a heat encapsulation system, which traps engine heat and protects the engine’s internal components from damage due to heating.

What BMW Has The B58 Engine?

The B58 engine was launched in 2015, with three iterations B58B30M0, B58B30M1, and B58B30O1. However, there was another engine version of B58B30C, which was basically the B58B30M1 version. It was launched specifically for the Toyota Supra.

So, let’s see all the versions of the BMW B58 engine and all the BMWs that use this engine.
