So, now you know the time interval for an oil change, however, you need to know the signs you need to change your oil.

• Check Engine Light illuminates continuously (most common)
• Reduced engine power
• Dark brown or very dirty oil
• Multiple new noises from the engine
• Smoke from the exhaust
• Bad burning oil smell
• Poor fuel efficiency

How To Change Oil On 2007 BMW 328i

After knowing all the oil changing basics, now let’s go into the step by step oil changing process.

And while changing the oil, you should also change the oil filter, because both go hand in hand and it is also cost & time-saving.

So, simply follow these steps and change the oil & filter on your 328i without any expert knowledge.

Tools Needed:

• 6.9 quarts of SAE 5W-40 Synthetic Oil
• Oil Filter
• Oil Filter wrench
• Jack and Jack stands
• Funnel
• 17mm Socket wrench
• Drain Pan (10 liters capacity)
• Shop towels
• safety glasses & gloves

Here, the 6.9 quarts is around 6.5-6.6 liters and you’ll need to get 7 liters of oil, where you’ll get some leftovers.

Oil Changing Process:

Before starting the process make sure to wear the safety glasses and gloves.

• First of all, lift up your car using the jack & jack stands and engage the emergency brakes.
• Now start the engine for about 10-15 minutes to let the oil warm up for easy draining.
• Now lose the oil filler cap located on top of the engine.
• Then loose the oil filter cap using the oil filter wrench.
• Now go under your car with the drain pan, 17mm socket wrench & a flathead.
• Directly in front of the catalytic converter, you’ll find the cover of the oil drain plug.
• Use the flathead to open the cover and locate the oil drain plug.
• Now put the drain pan beneath the drain plug, and open the plug using the 17mm socket wrench. (remember it will be hot so do it carefully)
• The oil will be drained in under 3-5 minutes.
• So, while the oil is drained take out the oil filter from the housing and replace it with the new oil filter.
• Also, replace two old O-rings with the new O-rings from the oil filter kit, put the oil filter back in the housing, and close it tightly.
• Now change the oil drain plug washer with the new washer from the oil filter kit.
• Close the oil drain plug after all the oil is drained.
• Now open the oil filler cap and use the funnel to carefully add the oil.
• After adding the oil close the oil filler cap by rotating it clockwise.
• Now check if the recommended oil quantity is filled.
• Now clean the oil drain plug area, oil filter area, and the oil filler cap area.
• And start the car for 5-10 minutes to check for any leakage.

If there’s no oil leakage and the oil level is right, then congratulations you’ve just done an oil change on your 2007 BMW 328i.

And remember to dispose of the old engine oil in any Autoshop or local recycling center.
